Arthroscopic Procedures

Knee Arthroscopy:

Knee Arthroscopy is a procedure in which knee joint is viewed through a small, high resolution camera. This helps doctors better diagnose and treat each patients individual needs. The surgery itself involves a few small incisions and the patient can typically return home within 1 to 2 hours. With more than 4 million knee arthroscopies performed worldwide each year, the procedure is common and most patients should be able to return to their daily routine within 6-8 weeks.

Replacements

Brief Overview

Total Knee Replacement

Several conditions can cause severe joint pain and disability that lead patients to consider joint replacement surgery. Knee replacement surgery typically involves the resurfacing of the bones in the knee, replacing them with a metal, plastic, or ceramic device called a prosthesis. As the knee is the largest joint in the body total replacements are one of the most successful procedures modern medicine.

Minimally Invasive Knee Replacement

Several conditions can cause severe joint pain and disability that lead patients to consider joint replacement surgery. Knee replacement surgery typically involves the resurfacing of the bones in the knee, replacing them with a metal, plastic, or ceramic device called a prosthesis. However unlike the total knee replacement surgery, this minimally invasive variation uses a shorter incision and a less invasive technique to expose the joint.

Revision Total Knee Replacement

This involves a second surgery should your total knee replacement fail. During this surgery the doctor removes part or all of the original prosthesis and replaces it with a new one

Unicompartmental Knee Replacement

An option for a small percentage of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. This method may be recommended if the arthritis is confined to a single compartment of the knee, resulting in only replacing the damaged portion of the knee with a prosthetic. Since the healthy areas of the knee are left untouched this results in a quicker recovery, less blood loss, and less pain after surgery.
